Angie Nixon, a Democratic Socialists of America member, defeated retired U.S. Army officer Alex Vindman in Florida's Democratic Senate primary despite being outspent 16 to 1, Mondoweiss reported. Nixon has called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a war criminal and opposes U.S. military aid to Israel.
The primary contest saw Nixon prevail over Vindman, a former Ukraine envoy who had received substantially more campaign funding. Her victory came as other progressive challengers across Florida struggled to replicate her success in their own primary races, suggesting mixed results for the left wing of the state Democratic Party in Tuesday's contests.
