Eight Arab and Islamic nations intensified their opposition to Israel's E1 settlement project east of occupied Jerusalem, Shehab Wire reported. The states cautioned that the plan carries serious consequences for the West Bank's future and threatens the possibility of establishing a geographically contiguous Palestinian state. They demanded international action to counter the initiative.
The E1 corridor, located between Jerusalem and the Jordan Valley, would link Israeli settlements in a way that effectively cuts through Palestinian territory. Implementation of the scheme would isolate East Jerusalem from the remainder of the West Bank, fragmenting Palestinian land and complicating efforts to form a viable independent state with territorial continuity.
