Hamas political bureau chief Khalil al-Hayya characterized the burial of 112 dead from the Abu Shariea and al-Hussaini families as one of the largest massacres of the conflict, according to Shehab Wire. The bodies were recovered from rubble in Gaza City's Sabra neighborhood after being exhumed from beneath their destroyed homes.
Al-Hayya said the mass funeral reflected what he described as a genocide war targeting Palestinian civilians. He used the incident to underscore Hamas's assertion that Israeli military operations constitute systematic killing aimed at the destruction of the Palestinian population in Gaza.
