The U.S. Supreme Court will not halt a $655.5 million damages judgment against Palestinian authorities, Justice Sonia Sotomayor ruled Monday. The award stems from a civil lawsuit filed by plaintiffs in connection with attacks that killed and injured people, according to Al-Monitor. Sotomayor's decision preserves the lower court's judgment without addressing the underlying legal questions in the case.

The ruling allows the damages to stand pending any further appeals or legal proceedings. Palestinian authorities had sought to block the judgment, which represents one of the largest civil awards against a Palestinian entity in U.S. courts.
