Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, will travel to southern Italy on September 8, 2026, to preside over a solemn eucharistic celebration at a basilica sanctuary dedicated to Mary in the Diocese of Tursi-Lagonegro, the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem announced. Pizzaballa has held the position of Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem since 2021, overseeing the Catholic faithful in the region. The Diocese of Tursi-Lagonegro, located in Basilicata in southern Italy, encompasses communities in the provinces of Matera and Potenza.
