TOP News Brief
ArabLit announced two Arabic works arriving in English translation in August 2026: a collection of one-act plays by Nobel Prize-winning Egyptian writer Naguib Mahfouz and a novel by Palestinian author Sara Abu Ghazal. The Mahfouz plays represent a portion of his dramatic output that has remained largely unavailable to English readers, while Abu Ghazal's fiction offers a contemporary voice from Palestinian literature.
Both titles join a growing catalog of Arabic literature in English translation, expanding the range of voices and genres available to English-language audiences. The dual releases this summer reflect publisher interest in bringing works across the Arab world—from Egypt's canonical figures to emerging Palestinian writers—to new readers.
