Twenty-one years after four settlements were evacuated from northern occupied West Bank territory under a 2005 "disengagement" plan, settlers have begun returning to their previous positions around Jenin, the Shehab Wire reported. The return occurs as part of what the agency described as a broader mapping effort encompassing additional settlements in the region.
The 2005 evacuation removed Israeli communities from parts of the northern West Bank as part of then-Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's stated strategy to reduce Israeli military presence in Palestinian areas. The current movement represents a reversal of that withdrawal, with settlers reoccupying locations they had abandoned more than two decades earlier. The expansion follows recent escalations of tensions in the Jenin area.
