Gaza's civil defense announced Saturday the resumption of operations to recover remains trapped beneath the rubble of the Engineers Tower in Shati refugee camp, more than three years after an Israeli airstrike destroyed the structure, the Shehab Wire reported. The tower's collapse in the central Gaza location killed dozens during what Palestinians describe as a massacre.
The recovery effort marks a new phase in attempts to locate and retrieve bodies still buried under the debris. The resumption of work comes after years in which conditions in Gaza and access constraints at the site had prevented sustained recovery operations. Civil defense teams will now undertake systematic excavation to unearth remains from the destruction.
