Gaza residents Islam Al-Khaldi and Mohammad Al-Akhras, both formerly employed in media work, have shifted to food preparation as livelihoods in the territory become increasingly precarious. Al-Khaldi, 32, holds a journalism degree and previously worked in the sector before transitioning to home-based baking operations alongside her husband in a modest kitchen.
The couple now produces bread and spiced goods from their home, the Palestine News Network reported. Their kitchen, filled with the smell of fresh bread and spices, has become their primary workspace. The move reflects broader economic pressures facing Palestinians in Gaza whose professional opportunities have narrowed due to ongoing conflict and widespread disruption to employment across traditional sectors including journalism and media.
