Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, announced Thursday that Muhammad Abd al-Salam al-Yazouri, a senior commander within the faction's armed structure, was killed in an assassination operation the previous evening. Al-Yazouri, known by the nom de guerre Abu Haitham, served as commander of Khanyounis brigade and held membership in the general military council, according to Shehab Wire.
The statement described al-Yazouri as having completed an extensive career in leadership roles within the organization. His death marks the loss of a figure who had held command responsibilities over one of Hamas's regional military units during an ongoing period of conflict in Gaza.
