Israeli occupation authorities prevented two members of the European Parliament from Sweden's Left Party, Jonas Sjöstedt and Hanna Guiding, from entering the occupied Palestinian territories, Shehab Wire reported. The ban was issued on direct orders from Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar.
The Swedish parliamentarians attempted to cross into occupied Palestinian land but were turned away at checkpoints controlling access to the territories. Their entry denial marks the latest instance of Israeli authorities restricting visits by foreign legislators critical of occupation policies. The Left Party holds a vocal position on Palestinian rights within the European Parliament.
