Israeli voters head to polls Tuesday in the first parliamentary elections since Hamas's October 7, 2023, attack on Israel and the ensuing Israeli military assault on Gaza, Democracy Now! reported. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government has overseen months of warfare that has killed tens of thousands in the territory and displaced hundreds of thousands more.
The election comes amid ongoing international scrutiny of Israel's military operations in Gaza and calls for a ceasefire. Voters will decide whether to retain Netanyahu's coalition or shift political direction, though any change in government raises questions about whether it would alter Israel's approach to the conflict and Palestinian civilians' circumstances.
