Israeli columnist warns interceptor stocks cannot carry another war

Israelis are being marched toward a resumed war with Iran on faith rather than arithmetic, the former Knesset member Ksenia Svetlova wrote Thursday in Haaretz, pointing to reports that the United States has burned through roughly eighty percent of its interceptor-missile stockpile.
Ukraine faces its worst air-defense shortage since the Russian invasion, she wrote, and Gulf states are lobbying President Trump against rushing back to war with Iran for the same reason — while in Israel, officials insist stocks allow fighting to resume, at least in the short term.
Senior political and military figures radiate combat readiness in the Israeli press, Svetlova observed, yet none steps forward to promise the public there will be no interceptor shortage if the fighting resumes.
She recalled the Ostrovsky-Gershovitz family of Haifa, wiped out by an Iranian missile at the close of the spring 2026 round, and a public too exhausted to ask questions: the joke of the season is hold fire until the end of August, we are on holiday.
After the failures that preceded October 7, Svetlova concluded, Israelis should stop believing that those who failed in Gaza will succeed in Iran; the country needs less faith and more logic, at a moment when even calling for a ceasefire is mocked as obsession.
