Ramallah's extended public silence on armed groups operating in eastern Gaza has ended with statements from Mahmoud al-Habbash, an adviser to the Palestinian Authority president, Shehab Wire reported. Al-Habbash's remarks point to direct connections between the militias active in the territory and senior PA leadership, marking a significant shift in official discourse on the issue.
The collaborationist groups have operated for some time in areas east of Gaza City within the "Yellow Line," territory under PA administration. Their presence and activities had previously drawn little acknowledgment or commentary from Ramallah officials, leaving their relationship to state structures unclear to the public.
Al-Habbash's statements now suggest organizational ties between these armed factions and PA decision-makers, according to reporting by the news agency.
