The European Union called on Israel to revoke a construction tender for the E1 area of the occupied West Bank, Middle East Eye reported. The bloc reiterated that Israeli settlements violate international law and urged the Israeli government to address escalating violence by settlers.
E1 is among the most disputed zones in the West Bank for development. Construction there would deepen territorial fragmentation and complicate Palestinian control of contiguous land. The EU has long opposed settlement expansion as an obstacle to two-state solutions and a violation of international humanitarian law. Israeli tenders for building in E1 have repeatedly drawn international condemnation and Palestinian objections to the planned projects.
