The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine, Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, announced the Islamic calendar dates for the upcoming observance of the Prophet Muhammad's birthday, Shehab Wire reported. Thursday completes the month of Safar in the year 1448 of the Islamic calendar, while Friday marks the first day of Rabi' al-Awwal, the month in which Muslims traditionally commemorate the Prophet's birth.
The announcement by Hussein, who heads the Supreme Council of Fatwa, establishes the official dates for the religious observance across Palestinian territories. The Islamic lunar calendar, which is approximately 11 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar, requires annual astronomical observation to determine exact month transitions.
