UNESCO selected Palestinian historian Abd al-Latif Abu Hashim and heritage researcher Haneen al-Omari as winners of the UNESCO/Jikji Memory of the World Prize for 2026, the Shehab Wire reported. The two Palestinians were chosen by the United Nations organization for education, science and culture for their work in the field.
Abu Hashim and al-Omari join a global cohort of recipients recognized annually for their contributions to preserving historical documents and cultural memory. The UNESCO/Jikji award acknowledges individuals and institutions that safeguard documentary heritage of international significance through research, conservation, and public engagement.
