An attempt to reach the besieged Abu Rida family home in Qusra failed this week, Ynet reported, in a piece the Israeli news site headlined "what's happening in the West Bank will explode in our faces."
Nearly four weeks into the siege, hilltop-outpost settlers and army soldiers together still block the house near Nablus, Ynet's report said, and even international media coverage has failed to break the closure. The goal, "as usual," the site wrote, is to make residents' lives unbearable enough that they leave.
The family's own words#
"I hope your courts will help, that America will apply pressure, that something will happen," the homeowner, named Louay, told Ynet by phone from the roof of the besieged building — the same appeal for outside intervention that has run through the family's public statements since the siege began.
Ynet's English edition, in a companion report, quoted residents warning the standoff itself risks fueling wider escalation, headlined "we are heading toward escalation."
What the paper is telling Israeli readers#
The Hebrew headline's own language — that the West Bank situation "will explode in our faces" — is notable as Israeli press self-criticism rather than a Palestinian framing: an Israeli mass-market outlet warning its own readers that an unresolved siege, now approaching its 28th day, carries a cost for Israel's own security calculus, not only for the families trapped inside it.
Israeli police made the file's first arrest on 3 September, detaining a 19-year-old settler over the attack that began the siege, but the closure itself has not lifted and no charges have been filed as of Ynet's report.
