Abbas postpones Palestinian legislative elections to 2027

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas issued a decree on Saturday cancelling legislative elections scheduled for 28 November 2026, Middle East Eye reported. Abbas called instead for simultaneous presidential and legislative elections to be held in 2027, according to the decree.
The postponement marks another delay in Palestinian electoral processes. Legislative elections have not been held since 2006, when Hamas won a majority in the Palestinian Authority parliament.
