Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas told the UN General Assembly on Thursday that Israeli policies now threaten "the very life and existence of the Palestinian people on their homeland," UN News reported. He urged the world not to allow "another Nakba"—a reference to the displacement of Palestinians during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war.
Abbas's remarks come as tensions remain high across the occupied territories and Gaza Strip, with the Palestinian leader invoking the historical term for the catastrophe that reshaped Palestinian society and left hundreds of thousands displaced.
