The Arab-led Joint List said it will support Israeli opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot in forming the country's next government, Middle East Eye reported. The move significantly undermines Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's attempts to secure a governing coalition.
Eisenkot, who leads the opposition, now has backing from a bloc representing Arab-Israeli voters. The decision shifts the balance in Israel's coalition negotiations as the country works to form its government.
