Today marks twelve years since Israel assassinated three leaders of the Qassam Brigades—Raid al-Attar, Muhammad Abu Shammala, and Muhammad Barhoum—during an offensive on Gaza, Shehab Wire reported. The three commanders were killed on August 21 in a strike that struck a significant blow to the armed wing of Hamas.

The deaths of al-Attar, Abu Shammala, and Barhoum represented a major loss for the Qassam Brigades, the military faction that has played a central role in Palestinian armed resistance. All three were senior figures within the organization's command structure, and their killings marked one of the most consequential Israeli operations targeting the group's leadership during the period of conflict in Gaza.
