Alaa al-Sakafi, director of the Conscience Foundation for Human Rights in Gaza, told Shehab Wire that Israeli occupation forces continue practicing forced disappearance as a systematic policy against hundreds of Palestinian detainees from the strip. He described the practice as part of ongoing genocide crimes committed against Palestinians in Gaza.
The foundation documents cases of Palestinians held without disclosure of their whereabouts or formal legal status, in violation of international humanitarian law that explicitly prohibits forced disappearance. Such detentions leave families without information about detained relatives and deny detainees basic legal protections, al-Sakafi said. The practice has affected detainees arrested since the current conflict began in October 2023.
