Lebanese parliament speaker Nabih Beri said Israel has proven it will not honor ceasefire agreements and has demonstrated no genuine commitment to any form of cessation of hostilities, Shehab Wire reported. Beri characterized the Israeli occupation as treating international accords and mutual understandings as nonbinding instruments that need not be observed.
The parliament speaker's remarks reflected mounting frustration over repeated violations documented since ceasefire negotiations commenced between the two sides. Beri suggested Israel was proceeding with military operations in southern Lebanon while simultaneously preparing for domestic political elections, effectively conducting the campaign at the expense of Lebanese civilians in the border region.
