The Ahrar movement commemorated the 57th anniversary of the Al-Aqsa Mosque arson on Tuesday, asserting that Israeli attacks on Jerusalem and its holy sites have persisted without interruption since the fire destroyed the southern prayer hall on August 21, 1969, according to Shehab Wire. The Palestinian faction used the occasion to underscore what it characterized as an ongoing assault on the city's religious and cultural landmarks.
The movement said the 1969 arson represented the start of a sustained campaign against Palestinian sacred heritage in Jerusalem. Attacks and violations targeting the mosque and other holy sites in the city have continued for more than five decades since the initial fire, the faction stated.
