Palestinian official calls shift from faction to institutional legitimacy in council elections

Palestinian official Motaz al-Masloukhi, head of the legal committee and general secretariat member of the Palestinian Diaspora's Popular Conference, said legal or political objections to new electoral mechanisms—including electoral colleges and consensus-building—remain legitimate and justified, Shehab Wire reported. He emphasized the need to transition from faction-based legitimacy to institutional legitimacy in National Council elections.
Al-Masloukhi's comments come as Palestinian political groups dispute electoral procedures ahead of council elections.
