Palestinian prisoner Hassan Arar regained his freedom Thursday after serving 22 consecutive years inside Israeli prisons, the Shehab Wire reported. The release marked the end of more than two decades of captivity within the Israeli prison system.
Arar's return to freedom came with devastating personal news. Upon exiting the prison gates, he learned that both his parents had died during his years of confinement. The deaths of two additional family members compounded the shock of his release, presenting him with acute emotional trauma as he faced reintegration into Palestinian society after more than two decades of separation.
