The 38th International Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race launched Sunday in Istanbul, Turkey, with approximately 2,500 athletes competing across the waterway separating Europe and Asia, Shehab Wire reported. Participants represented 64 countries, making the event one of the world's largest open-water swimming competitions held annually.
Several swimmers raised Palestinian flags aboard ferries during the race. The Bosphorus crossing has become a signature endurance event, attracting elite and amateur swimmers seeking to complete the challenging intercontinental passage. The waterway's strong currents and traffic patterns create demanding conditions for competitors navigating the roughly four-kilometer distance.
