Signs were removed overnight from the British consulate building in occupied East Jerusalem as a deadline for the facility's closure approached, Al Jazeera English reported. The removal preceded the British government's decision to shut down the diplomatic mission.
The consulate's closure ends Britain's diplomatic presence in the Palestinian territories. Officials had previously indicated the facility would cease operations by a specified date.
