National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir entered Al-Aqsa Mosque and performed Talmudic religious rites in the eastern courtyard facing the Dome of the Rock, the Ma'an news agency reported. The visit represents another incursion into the compound by a senior Israeli official.
Such entries by Israeli government and military figures to the sacred Islamic site have drawn repeated condemnation from Palestinian and Arab leadership. Palestinian officials and regional governments view the visits as provocative intrusions into a site holy to Muslims worldwide and central to Palestinian identity and claims over occupied East Jerusalem.
