Two hundred sixty Israeli settlers entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on Tuesday and performed Talmudic religious rituals in its courtyards, the Ma'an news agency reported. The intrusion marked another episode in a series of settler visits to the sacred Islamic site in occupied East Jerusalem.
The compound, known to Muslims as Haram al-Sharif and to Jews as the Temple Mount, remains a flashpoint in Israeli-Palestinian tensions. Settlers and Israeli authorities have conducted numerous incursions into the site over recent years, prompting repeated condemnations from Palestinian officials and international observers.
