On October 7, 2023, the military commander of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Muhammad al-Deif, announced the launch of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood with an initial strike against Israeli military positions, airports, and fortifications, Shehab Wire reported. The operation marked a major armed engagement in the conflict.
The wire service's retrospective accounts the assault as part of what it describes as a strategic infiltration campaign and field combat operations during the past three years.
