Progressive US representatives have called on Israel to release Hussam Abu Safia, a Palestinian doctor held in Israeli detention, Al Jazeera English reported. The lawmakers sought to draw attention to what they characterized as Israeli abuse and detention practices against Palestinian medical workers.
The move reflects pressure from sections of Congress on Israel's treatment of Palestinians in custody, particularly those working in medicine.
