More than 150 Israeli settlers entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound under Israeli police protection and performed prayers there, Middle East Eye reported. The incursion violated the Status Quo arrangement established in 1967, which restricts prayer at the sacred site to Muslims alone and has governed access to the complex for nearly six decades.

Israeli police facilitated the settlers' entry into the compound, enabling the group to conduct religious rituals within the mosque. The breach marks a departure from the longstanding agreement that has kept the site's prayer practices exclusive to Muslim worshippers since the end of the 1967 war.
