A human rights organization's analysis of trade records found that 85 of 132 food shipments sent to Australia over eight years contained more than $5 million worth of organic dates grown in West Bank settlements, the Guardian reported. Global Echo, which conducted the investigation, identified the shipments as being labeled and sold as produce of Israel.
The findings highlight longstanding concerns that settlement agricultural exports obscure their origin from consumers. International law classifies Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territory as illegal.
