The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights called on UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk to formally recognize the situation in Gaza as genocide during an intervention at the UN Human Rights Council's Item 7 General Debate, according to the PCHR. The organization argued that such recognition would acknowledge victims' suffering and intensify international pressure on the situation.
The PCHR did not elaborate on additional consequences it anticipated from the High Commissioner's office formally designating events in Gaza as genocide.
