Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur on human rights in Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, warned that Israeli military checkpoints and road gates are suffocating Palestinian life, according to Shehab Wire. Albanese's statement addressed the extensive barrier system established by Israeli occupation forces across the West Bank.
The checkpoints and road closures restrict Palestinian movement and access to essential services, according to the rapporteur's assessment of conditions in occupied Palestinian territory.
