Israel's military acknowledged Wednesday that its soldiers opened fire on a car attempting to flee Gaza City in January 2024, following Israeli evacuation orders in the area. The vehicle was carrying 5-year-old Palestinian Hind Rajab and six of her relatives. All seven occupants were killed in the incident, Democracy Now! reported.
The military's admission came as international pressure mounted over the deaths. The soldiers had fired after Israeli forces issued evacuation directives to residents in the sector where the shooting took place. The probe represents a rare Israeli military investigation into a civilian casualty incident during the conflict in Gaza.
